Bhopal sex racket probe expands: Porn plot, suicide, and club link emerge

Published on:

In a disturbing escalation of the Bhopal sexual exploitation case, police investigations have uncovered new layers of criminality—including plans to monetize explicit videos on pornographic websites, deeper involvement of absconding suspects, and possible links to local hospitality venues.

Farhan, already in custody and identified as a central figure in the racket, allegedly led a network that not only targeted Hindu girls for sexual assault and blackmail but also intended to profit by uploading videos online. His accomplices, Abrar and Nabeel, now absconding, reportedly suggested the idea after learning the process through their mobile phones.

The conspiracy took root after Farhan was rejected by a girl from Indore, prompting him to target her and her sister in retaliation. He collaborated with his juniors, Abrar and Nabeel, to lure multiple girls under the pretense of study sessions and parties. Once inside rented accommodations, the girls were allegedly drugged with marijuana-laced cigarettes and spiked drinks. Farhan would then sexually assault them in rooms equipped with hidden cameras, while others stepped out. The footage was later used to intimidate victims into silence—and, according to investigators, was being prepared for online sale.

The scope of the operation widened when police found that Abrar and Nabeel were paid for arranging rooms and transportation. A manhunt is currently underway to trace the duo, with police teams dispatched to West Bengal and Bihar. Abrar’s last known location has been tracked to Murshidabad.

In a related twist, another suspect, 23-year-old Hamid Raza Khan, was found dead in his Bhopal rental accommodation. A B.Tech student from Bihar, Khan died by suicide on December 23, 2024, shortly before the scandal broke. While his death was initially attributed to depression and substance abuse, police are now probing his possible role in the gang’s operations.

The investigation also points to Club 90, a local restaurant frequently visited by Farhan, where he allegedly introduced new victims to his associates. Police believe private spaces at the venue may have been used to facilitate criminal activity. The role of the restaurant operator is now under active scrutiny and legal action is likely if involvement is established.

Additionally, police have recovered a register from Sahil, another accused in custody, containing the names of over 30 Hindu girls—many of whom are now being contacted for statements and counseling. The SIT suspects this may be part of a larger pattern of organized exploitation masquerading as event management, with ties to high-profile parties across the city.

Authorities are also probing the financial trail. Despite modest personal backgrounds, several accused maintained lavish lifestyles, possibly funded through online cricket betting. Investigators are now working to trace these funds and uncover potential money laundering channels linked to the network.

With each new revelation, the case is growing in scale and gravity. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to pursue leads under stringent provisions of the POCSO Act, IT Act, and Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act. As the probe unfolds, the focus remains on dismantling the full network and delivering justice to the victims.
