Health camps and awareness sessions with a focus on safe births and maternal wellbeing will mark the World Health Day in the state capital today.
The day will be observed across Madhya Pradesh with a spotlight on maternal and newborn health. Events include screening camps and awareness sessions at government health centres.
This year’s theme, Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures, emphasises care during pregnancy, childbirth and infancy. Sessions will include counselling, expert talks and interactive discussions on maternal nutrition, neonatal care and early interventions.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Prabhakar Tiwari said that reducing maternal and infant mortality remains a top priority for the state. Programmes have been designed accordingly to maximise public participation.
Health officials will also offer free health screenings for expecting mothers and infants across Bhopal. Rural outreach workers have been mobilised to ensure that women in remote areas are not left out. World Health Day marks the anniversary of the World Health Organisation’s founding in 1948. The day is observed globally to raise awareness of pressing health challenges.
