The Bhopal gas victims have strongly condemned Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to India to advance proposed Indo-Japan nuclear deal. Although the Indian Prime Minister wants FDI even at cost of health and safety of people of India gas victims, Japanese PM should fix Fukushima first that is spreading cancer in Japan. With common people of Japan, the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are also opposing this dirty deal.
Bhopal shows that maintenance irregularities in maintenance of plants in India are thousands times more in comparison to Japan. Gas victims also commented that Japanese PM is coming under pressure of America and France who use Japan's nuclear reactor manufacturing technology. The Govt of Japan is also crossing limits by advancing on nuclear deal with a non NPT (nuclear proliferation treaty) country like India that has conducted atomic tests in 1974 and 1998 in past. Gas victims’ committee said it seems Japan has not learnt any lessons from nuclear bomb devastation by America in WW 2. The generation after generation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is still suffering from the devastating after effects of American attack on Japan with atomic bombs.
In a statement, Bhopal Gas Peedit Sangharsh Sahayog Samiti Sadhna Karnik said, “In Bhopal still the hazardous chemical waste dumped by American company UCC-DOW could not be treated even after 31 years. This poisonous waste contains mercury, naphthalene, dischloro and trichlorobenzene etc dissolved in ground water are still causing cancer like diseases to Bhopal victims. The modi government is not ready to investigate the spread of hazardous waste in length and depth in Bhopal.” She further said that in India, the villages around Pokhra atomic explosion, Ravatbhata near Kota, Jaitpur, Trambe near Mumbai or Kalapakkan in Kerala are showing high number of cancer cases due to high radiation exposure.
