The Bhopal-Bilaspur Express was successfully operated by an all-women staff to mark International Women’s Day on Saturday. The journey showcases the growing role of women in railway operations.
Train number 18235 departed from Platform No 5 at Bhopal Station at 10:15 AM, flagged off by Additional Divisional Railway Manager Rashmi Diwakar. A female loco pilot and assistant loco pilot led the journey, with a woman serving as the Guard.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria praised the initiative as a testament to women’s efficiency, capability, and professionalism in the railway sector. Indian Railways, he said, continues to promote women’s leadership by assigning them key responsibilities.
Passengers and railway officials welcomed the move, calling it a major step towards women’s empowerment. Many expressed hope that similar initiatives would be implemented in other sectors.
