Apparently enthused by the success of ‘Rahgiri’ in the city which is being organised in Vijay Nagar locality for the past two Sundays, the district administration has decided to extend ‘Rahgiri’ events in other parts of the city so as to enable more and more people to take part in health awareness campaign of the district administration.

This was decided in a meeting of the senior district officials held here on Tuesday. In the meeting, the district administration has also decided to change the name of ‘Rahgiri’ to ‘Indore Morning’. In the first two weeks, the ‘Rahgiri’ which is being organised on Sunday from Vijay Nagar square to Bapat Square in Vijay Nagar locality has elicited tremendous response from the city people.

While on the first day, ‘rahgiri’ had attracted 30,000-33,000 people, on the second Sunday, almost 50,000-55,000 people had thronged the ‘rahgiri’ venue in Vijay Nagar despite chilly weather condition. As decided in the meeting, from January next year, ‘Indore Morning’ will be organised every Sunday in selected localities of the western parts of the city — vis-a-vas Rajbada, from Tower square to Agrasen square and from Chanaykyapuri to Gopur square.

A total of 29 sporting activities are held during the ‘rahgiri’ which primarily is being organised to inculcate health awareness among people through cycling, walking, variety of physical and yoga exercises etc. Describing the event as a great example of social harmony, collector Akash Tripathi said the decision to organise similar event in other parts of the city has been taken following demands from various communities living in other parts of the city.

He said any individual or for that matter social or cultural organisations can associate themselves with the event by sponsoring various sporting activities.
