State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals ltd (BHEl), Bhopal, has handed over four turbine-generator sets, each of 180 MW, rating pelton type of turbine to Bhutan for its Mangdechhu hydroelectric project in a simple ceremony held here on Saturday.
BHEl has already supplied Tala (6x180 MW) turbine and generators, officials said.
Apart from this BHEl is also executing order for Punatsangchhu-I (6x200 MW) and Punatsangchhu-II (6x170 MW) turbine and generators. Design and development of turbine suitable for Mangdechhu project was carried out by Hydro lab Engineers.
It may to be mentioned that due to stringent design requirement special efforts were needed to meet the expectation of customer.
Officials at the BHEl said that the turbine model test was successfully carried out in Hydro lab from October 15 to 19 in presence of engineers and experts from MHPA and NHPC and further claimed that the test proved the turbine capability to meet the guaranteed efficiency, output and other guaranteed parameters.
The model test was demonstrated with the presence of Joint Managing Director (MHPA), Chencho Tshering on all 5 days of testing.
Further Tshering also congratulated BHEl and Hydro laboratory in particular for completing the 1st milestone well as per schedule and giving higher efficiency than guaranteed. He further hoped that BHEl would also meet all its commitments in time. He specially thanked Hydro lab testing for explaining the test in detail and for their dedicated efforts.
K Purswani GM (Hydro) handed over a copy of “model test results” to the representatives of the Mangdechhu hydroelectric in a function held in Hydro laboratory. Speaking on the occasion K Purswani said that BHEl would meet all its commitments and expressed hope that association with the neighbouring country will continue in future. He congratulated Hydro lab’s dedicated team for successful completion of this test.
Dinesh Kumar GM (Engg Hydro & MM) speaking on the occasion said model testing activity was only activity which was done as per agreed scheduled and further asked Hydro lab team to maintain this tradition.
He further hoped that MHPA would be co-operative in design approval of prototype turbines. Kaushik Maulik, CE (EM&T), MHPA assured that the project would be executed in close association with BHEl.
M Mangla, AGM (Hydro lab) declared the result and thanked all associated with Model Test and also especially thanked customer for their co-operation and dedication during Model Witness Test.
The function was attended by staff of Hydro laboratory and other senior officials of other hydro departments. Till date Hydro lab has successfully completed 47 contractual model tests.
