The Congress Government has once again come under criticism after it has been decided that Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, initiated in 2017 by Chouhan Government to help out farmers tackle the price slump in farm sector, would be discontinued.

However, the government has clarified that the scheme would be introduced in a new form.

Agriculture Minister Sachin Yadav told that during constant consultations with the farmers it emerged that farm prices tend to slip whenever the scheme was announced and the state government support ultimately lead to losses to farmers. “So after plenty of deliberations, we decided to discontinue this scheme,” Yadav claimed.

He claimed that the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana was in controversies since outset and failed to benefit farmers so we would be mooting another pro-farmer scheme by doing away anomalies of this existing scheme.  “Farmer was not at the helm in none of the scheme run by previous BJP government,” alleged Yadav.

While affirming his government’s commitment towards farmers, Yadav claimed all possible measures would be taken to ensure the farmers remain prosperous and happy.

A contentious scheme which even allowed selling of farm products below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), BBY was announced by then CM Chouhan in the aftermath of ten-day farmers’ agitation in 2017 that included killing of five Mandsaur farmers in police firing.

Besides, the Finance department in the State has written to all the Heads of the Departments to intimate about the schemes that they need to put an end.

Reacting to the reports of Congress government seeking to ‘improve’ Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, Chouhan tweeted, “We would welcome any move of the state government to improve Bhavantar but their intent does not seem to make payments to farmers. We won’t let it happen.”
