The Second Promise’, Bhaskar Sharma’s debut novel is getting wide appreciations among readers across all age groups. Bhaskar is a scientist turned writer who was pursuing his research in field of life sciences earlier. He talked about his writing and future projects. Here are the excerpts.
Q: When you decided to be a writerIJ
A: It just happened. Since my childhood, I was inclined towards theater and drama, and used perform on stage, especially when I was in Jiwaji University and research institutes at Delhi, so I got a false impression of being an excellent actor (winks), but deep down, I always knew
I wanted to write, to be a writer. Only I know the truth of my acting skills, horrible.
Q: What is your genre; which age group do you targetIJ
A: I try to write for all age groups. Readers of fourteen to around seventy years old have read ‘The Second Promise’. I would preferably write fiction only, but I will never repeat my work. My next project is based on lord Ram’s life, and I wish to write a spy novel after that.
Q: Amish Tripathi also has written on lord Ram. Don’t you think readers may not like to read such altered version of Indian mythologiesIJ
A: I haven’t read the book yet, so I don’t even know what he has written. Indian readers appreciate every good work of the world, and above that, lord Ram is such a great character that no one could write everything about him in single book. It will be a fiction work so I can assure my readers that they will find uniqueness in characters and story as well.
Q: Tell us something about The Second Promise.
A: The Second Promise is a book about Professor Ravikant and his two promises, which he pledges to his dying girlfriend; first is to be a renowned scientist and second is to settle with a girl. The story runs around the second promise as he maintains distance from females and does not interact with them much. A beautiful girl Meghna challenges his decision of taking male students in his lab. It is a pre-election time of 2013, so media and political parties highlight the issue, which creates nationwide stir. Such hostile condition forces him to think about the reason behind his decision.
The Second Promise is first part of the series, and second and final part will be in market by first week of January 2017 with name ‘Wherever you go, Destiny Follows.’
Q: Readers complain about grammatical errors.
A: This is our first experience in field of publishing, so, yes, few grammatical errors are there in first edition along with two spelling mistakes, but now we have talked to some good editors for editing our second book and second edition of The Second Promise.
Q: What you advise for aspirant writers and your readersIJ
A: For writers, I would suggest write down your ideas on paper. Write as much as you can about the topic of your interest, and then find some genuine reviewers to evaluate your work. If you get positive reviews from them, go ahead for publishing. I cannot advise readers; instead, I wish to hear from them, their views about my books.
