The classical art lovers of the city witnessed a mesmerising Bharatnatyam performance at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan on Wednesday. The programme was organised by Yaman Academy of Fine Arts, Bhopal to observe the occasion of Guru Parv.
To mark the occasion, the students of Yaman Academy gave a splendid classical performance to give a tribute to their guru, a noted and a distinguished Bharatnatyam exponent lata Singh Munshi. On the other hand, lata gave a tribute to her guru, the renowned Sarangi maestro Ustad Abdul latif Khan.
Notably, Guru Purnima is an occasion where all the students thank their teachers for all their love and affection they give to the students throughout. It is also the occasion for the students to thank the gurus for providing them knowledge and making them able to reach heights. So, the students thank their guru lata Singh Munshi for making them learn the beautiful and mild forms of Bharatnatyam performed on stage. As many as 100 students from the age group of 4 years to 60 years participated in the programme.
The programme began with the Guru Vandana. The programme was further followed by Ganesh Vandana. An impressive performance ‘Sarv Dharam’ was given by little girls that included Shiv Stuti, Krishna Stuti, hymn on Jesus Christ and Hamd.
After an appreciable performance by the tiny tots, the programme was further followed by a Krishna Padam, Sarswati vandana.
Notably, lata has opened new vistas in Bharatnatyam by experimenting successfully and composing dance using well known Hindi and Urdu poetry in Hindustani Music. After watching the movements and the foot works of 100 artistes on stage this was much clear to the audience. lata’s mastery lies in expressing the emotions in presenting minute details. She gets involved in the performance by being immersed deeply in emotion herself. So as did her students. It was a feast for the audiences to watch her performance.
Television actress Divyanka Tripathi was also present on the occasion to witness her mother’s performance at Bharat Bhavan. She says, “It was a small surprise for my mother. She didn’t know that I have come here to watch her performance.”
