An Executive Engineer of Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) and contractor were sentenced by district court to three years each imprisonment in a corruption case, a fine of Rs 2,000 has also been imposed on the accused.
Bhopal Development Authority's Executive Engineer MM Khan and contractor Ashok Kumar Jain were sentenced in a case of tender of Rs 50 lakh which the contractor was awarded in collusion with Executive Engineer.
The verdict was pronounced on Thursday by the court of Prevention of Corruption Act Special Court Rajeev Pal. Rishiraj Dwivedi along with Special Public Prosecutor Hemlata Kushwaha presented the case on behalf of the government.
The complaint was lodged by RC Srivastava in the Lokayukta office. In the complaint it was told that plots were marked under BDA's village Amravad Khurd project. Electrification work was also done in this. In this, the then Executive Engineer of BDA MM Khan indulged in corruption by misusing his position. He did not prepare the estimate before publishing the tender.
Prior to this, putting the estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh, the tender was given to the contractor without getting approval from the competent officers. Both were benefited by showing the tender of contractor Ashok Kumar Jain as a tender of lesser amount. This caused loss to BDA.
Corruption was found in the Lokayukta police investigation. Lokayukta presented the challan. Both the accused could not present evidence in the defense in the court.
