Of them, 4,907 complaints were received during the year, from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014 and 283 complaints were pending at the beginning of the year as compared to 5,317 complaints dealt with during the same period last year.
While talking to media persons here on Thursday, Ombudsman AF Naqvi said that 3,836 complaints were received from Madhya Pradesh and 688 from Chhattisgarh, while 383 complaints were related to credit cards. In the year 2013-14 Total numbers of Complaints dealt with were 5190.
Naqvi said, “The Banking Ombudsman Scheme, particularly the procedure for filing complaints in the office of the Banking Ombudsman was first introduced by the Reserve Bank in 1995 to provide expeditious and inexpensive forum to bank customers for resolution of their complaints relating to deficiency in banking services. The Scheme was received in 2002 and again in December 2005 which was effective from January 1, 2006. The Scheme was slightly modified in May 2007 and again in February 2009.”
Naqvi further said that it is observed that due to lack of awareness among general public about the procedure specified in the Banking Ombudsman Scheme, more than 50 per cent of the complaints become non maintainable. As per clause 9 of the Scheme following Procedure is to be adopted for filing complaints with the banking Ombudsman.
Any person who has grievance against a bank on any one or more of the grounds himself or through his authorised representative (Other than an advocate), make a complaint to the banking Ombudsman within whose jurisdiction the branch or office of the bank complained against is located.
