Over the issue of installation of late Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s statue in Bhopal by replacing legendary freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad’s bust, kin of Azad appeared on Wednesday and opposed the move of the Congress Government.

However, sensing the controversy and the consequences on this emotional issue, the Congress Government has deferred the unveiling of the Arjun Singh statue for the time being.

Factually, the bust of Azad earlier existed till 2016 at the place where the statue of Late Arjun Singh is proposed. On reaching Bhopal, Amit Azad, who identified himself as great grandson of legendary freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad has threatened protest on the issue.

Amit claimed that Azad was such a personality that his mere name make people bow down their heads in reverence and his fight against the British was iconic.

Amit accompanied by his family members upon reaching Bhopal called on the state Govenror Lalji Tandon lodging protest over the matter. To add, the Azad Bust was removed from New Market trisection in 2016 after administration had removed several statues from busy traffic joints.

Recently the Congress government got late Arjun Singh’s statue at the place and the statue is awaiting unveiling.

Azad kin claimed that they would hold fast in Bhopal on Dec 2, if the venue of Arjun Singh’s statue is not changed. The BJP is also on the offensive on this issue.

Alok Sharma, the Bhopal mayor was also present with the Azad’s family on Wednesday and affirmed that he would also sit on fast with the aggrieved persons.

Sharma on the occasion claimed that officials have taken a decision on their own on installation of Arjun Singh statue and Municipal Corporation was not consulted on the matter.
