Awareness summit held at Vindhyachal Academy

The latest internet craze Blue Whale Challenge has become a point of discussion for every teenager. An awareness session on the suicidal game was organised on Saturday at Vindhyachal Academy.

Organised by Madhya Pradesh Yuva Sansad, the session was conducted by Joint Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Yuva Sansad Aishwarya Dwiwedi. As many as 150 students from grade seventh and eighth were present at the seminar and listened raptly about the Blue Whale Challenge.

Starting off with the seminar Aishwarya pointed out the highlights of the online game. She told the students that this “game” can reach a young teenager on social media sites if they endorse certain hashtags and get involved in some groups.

She further informed that when the player signs up for the game, he/she is assigned an administrator who provides them with a daily task to complete for 50 days of which they must send photographic proof of completion.

“These tasks span from being simple chores, such as watching a horror movie or waking up at odd times but eventually they are told to inflict harm upon themselves which could start from  pinching yourself by a needle. But, the ugly face comes up on the 50th and final day, when they are asked to kill themselves. Those who get cold feet are threatened that the administrator possesses all their information and would bring harm to them or their loved ones. This threat instills in them a forced sense of compulsion to complete their last task,” she added.

An interaction session was also held after the seminar. Talking to The Pioneer, Aishwarya said, “It was shocking that students already know all about the challenge. So we advised them that if they indulge in something like this they should immediately talk to their parents, teachers or elder siblings.”

Aishwarya further said that they will organise similar sessions in other schools of the city.
