An awareness campaign on pediatric gastroenterology was organized in the city by the medical experts of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.
Addressing a gathering of parents, especially mothers at the Apollo Spectra Hospital, the doctors of the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals , New Delhi said that pediatric gastroenterology focuses on problems and ailments related to children including growth, maturation, physical and emotional development and age-related behavioral issues.
Dr Smitha Malhotra, Consultant, Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Apollo Hospitals said that digestive, liver and nutritional ailments in children are quite different from adults and can be fatal if not addressed at an early stage. She added that children under the age of 18 who suffer from acute diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, jaundice, feeding complications and abdominal pains will require immediate attention by a pediatric gastroenterologist.
Dr Malhotra further said that a pediatric gastroenterologist is the right specialist to provide treatment and preventive care for pediatric digestive and liver problems.

An Open House programme and question answer session too was held at the end of the campaign where doctors interacted with the public and took questions. Dr Purendra Basin and other doctors of the Apollo Spectra Hospital, Gwalior took part in the awareness campaign.
