A 24-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was attacked by five armed men with sharp-edged weapons over a petty issue near Semra Kalan under Ashoka Garden police station.

According to the police, Ranjit Mewada was attacked with sharp-edged weapons at around 10 pm by Deviram, Jitendra, Dharmendra, Devendra and Sunil.

The victim was rushed to Hamidia hospital where his condition is reportedly stable. A complaint was lodged with the Ashoka Garden police by the victim.

In the complaint the victim has claimed that at around 10 pm when he halted his auto rickshaw to pick passengers, Deviram, who owns a hotel objected to Ranjit’s stopping the auto rickshaw near his roadside food stall which lead to a brawl between them after which they started hurling verbal abuse at each other. Soon the heated exchange turned physical and Deviram was joined by his other accomplices Jitendra, Dharmendra, Devendra and Sunil and later the clashes turned violent and nasty as the victim was attacked with sharp edge weapons.

The police have registered a case under section 307 and 34 of the IPC and have started further investigation.

The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Till the filing of the report no arrest were made in the case.

Investigating Officer SI Ganesh Rao told that the attacked was fuelled by a petty issue in which the victim was attacked in his neck and head. The victim is a auto rickshaw driver and stopped the vehicle near Deviram’s food stall to pick passengers which lead to the whole incident. The condition of the victim is stable and would be discharged on Friday, he added. The incident has blown the lid off the Government’s claims that the city is safe for the citizens and no crimes take place. Similiar acts in the past have changed the perception of people towards the area as being more dangerous and criminal.
