The police on Tuesday busted a three-member gang engaged in fraud cases associated with ATM cards and bank accounts. All the three members, who committed crimes in several parts of the State were nabbed in Katni district.

While speaking with the mediapersons in Jabalpur, Inspector General of Police (Jabalpur Range) Upendra Jain told that the miscreants after obtaining information from the victims used Airtel money and Mobi quick companies for money transferring. In the initial investigation, it was found that the miscreants have cheated around 33 persons.

They used BSNl number series as they had the concept that BSNl numbers are mostly used by Government employees, added Jain.

The three nabbed gang members were identified as Rajesh Mandal (22), Krishna alias Sanjay Mandal (27) and Vinod Mandal (22) of Devghar in Jharkhand.

The matter came into fore after the victim Dr Suresh Soni received a phone call and the caller informed that his (Soni’s) ATM card has been blocked and to open it, he needed to share the information regarding his card number and ATM pin.

Initially, the victim provided the information to the caller as he was official doctor for the SBI’s NKJ branch in Jabalpur and thought that the bank employees might have provided his contact details for assistance. The caller procured serial number, expiry date, CVV number and pin (pass word) of the ATM and was told that he would soon receive one time password.

Within second, when Dr Soni received the One Time Password (OTP), the caller procured it from Dr Soni. The caller also informed him that Dr Soni’s pin has been changed to 4928 and the ATM card would not lock in future.

After sometime, the same caller asked the victim for bank account details of other bank which raised suspicion and the victim disconnected the call. Within few minutes the victim received an SMS alert that `25,000 has been withdrawn from his account.

He immediately approached police and lodged a complaint and when IG Jain came to know about the fraud, a team was formed and the investigation was started.

Miscreants have confirmed that Jai Narayan was the mastermind who gave the idea of fraud using ATM card details and internet wallet companies. Police claimed that there are few other gang members including mastermind Jai Narayan could not be arrested.
