Senior Congress leader and former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, who time and again held senior leaders of his party responsible for the party’s defeat in the elections, here on Monday said that the Congress party would witness a split in the year 2016.
Without saying that he would float a new party, Khan told media persons that he has come out with an innovative idea that the Congress should come out with a new party platform to contest next Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
He clarified that in Madhya Pradesh, out of 230 seats, there are around 50-60 seats where the candidates can win the elections if they contest on other than Congress’ symbol.
He said that after the BJP came to power in Centre, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has come to know that without defeating BJP in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress can not defeat the BJP at Centre. “Now, Rahulji is quite clear that Modi Government needs to be uprooted and the path goes from Madhya Pradesh,” he added. However, he parried the query whether he has met Rahul Gandhi recently.
Talking about regional satraps, Khan stated that all the senior leaders have come to a conclusion that former Union Minister Kamal Nath needs to be projected as Chief Ministerial candidate in the State. “He is well experienced leader with administrative qualities as well. Thus, he should be allowed to lead the party in the State,” he added.
Regarding his innovative idea of split in the party, he said that Rahul has no other option, but to accept it, to remove Modi government from Centre. He stated that in January itself, he would tour different parts of the State to get consensus on the idea and a delegation of senior party leaders would meet Rahul Gandhi in January only.
