Army widow donates for eye surgery every year in husband’s memory

In a quiet but deeply meaningful gesture, Mrs. Asha Mathur (name changed), a 77-year-old resident of Albert Ekka Colony in Bhopal’s Gulmohar area, has once again donated for the treatment of a needy eye patient in memory of her late husband, a commissioned officer in the Army Air Defence. Continuing her yearly tradition, Mrs. Mathur donated Rs 7,000 to Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital on Monday for the surgery and treatment of an underprivileged patient.

Albert Ekka Colony is home to many families of former or deceased soldiers, and Mrs. Mathur is one of its most devoted residents. Despite her age and personal challenges, she never forgets to mark May 6 with her annual act of service. Her contribution reflects not just personal grief, but enduring patriotism and compassion for those in need.

Her late husband’s legacy of service continues through her. Mrs. Mathur’s family has deep military roots—her younger son, a brother, and her daughter-in-law are all currently serving in the Indian Army. Her life, marked by quiet resilience and commitment to the nation, continues to inspire those around her.

Speaking to reporters, Mrs. Mathur expressed concern over the growing culture of social extravagance. “In today’s times, people spend excessively on birthday dinners and memorial feasts. That money should instead go toward educating poor children or providing healthcare to the needy. Social ostentation benefits no one. The spiritual peace and happiness that comes from helping others cannot be compared to anything else,” she said.

Hospital authorities expressed their gratitude for her continued support, noting that such acts of kindness not only help patients but also set an example for the community.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav will interact with visiting investors and distribute benefits to beneficiaries of various state government schemes. The conclave is expected to become a significant milestone in promoting innovation, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship for farmers across Madhya Pradesh.
