The Banyan Tree always fascinated me since my childhood. Its roots that spread across the acres of land leave me bewildered. The Banyan series is my attempt to portray my feelings on canvas,” says artist Aparna Bidasaria.

Aparna has put up a series of her paintings at Rangdarshini Gallery, Bharat Bhavan. The exhibition that began here from Tuesday showcases different forms of the banyan tree.

Aparna has been working since 10 years as a painter. She works in mixed media that includes charcoal, pastel, ink and acrylic. On asking why she puts banyan as theme of her paintings, Aparna told The Pioneer, “I always get fascinated with the banyan and the way it stretches itself till the ground. By dripping colours on canvas I try to capture the cascade of dropping roots and the intensity of the Bargad’s shadows.”

Elaborating more about it she said, “Banyan tree has many more tales to tell us and through my colours I try to catch the magic that the tree has.”

Aparna’s work is clear and subtle. With the delicate brush strokes over canvas Aparna highlighted every detail of her theme in each painting. The choice of colours that she spread over the canvas brings out the enchantment of banyan tree.

Her work has taken the exquisiteness of the tree to another dimension, as Aparna does not limit herself to western and eastern techniques.

The art enthusiasts had an enthralling experience watching 34 paintings as they walked through the gallery. The exhibition will be on view till February 5.
