After three victims targeted by the same gang in the past three, another woman was targeted by two youths in the Jumerati area of the state capital; accused cheated a 70-year-old woman by luring her of Rs 4 lakh cash in return of her jewelry she was wearing.
The police are yet to reveal any link between the earlier three frauds and the latest fraud on Thursday. Police said that the victim Sarju Bai Sahu works at a shop in Jumerati and was cheated while she was working.
The victim approached police and lodged a complaint regarding fraud. She stated that around 10 in the morning two youths came and offered that they have Rs 4 lakh cash and do not want to carry the cash due to which they want to buy her jewelry.
After a while they provided a stack of currency notes and collected pair of gold earrings, a gold chain and anklets and escaped the spot.
Later on checking only the upper Rs 500 note was found to be real while others were pieces of papers. After this the woman went to the police station and registered the case.
The police registered a case under section 420 of the IPC.
Police have started an investigation, CCTV footage of the nearby areas would be investigated.
Search for the active gang which targeted earlier three women is intensified while the new incident has alerted police that other gang members of the same gang are present or not would be investigated.
