The Annual Convocation of the Jiwaji University, Gwalior for presenting the medals and prizes to meritorious students was held at the Madhav Rao Gymnasium Hall of the University today. Various degrees were also conferred upon the successful candidates of the 2018 session.
The convocation ceremony was chaired by Anandiben Patel, the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and Chancellor of the University. Jitu Patwari, the Cabinet Minister of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh was the Chief Guest of the programme.
Total 37 topper students were awarded the gold medals while 142 students were honoured with the PhD degree. 6 students of the M Phil course and 137 post graduate students were also felicitated.
Delivering the key address, noted social worker Padmashree Uma Tuli brought to the spot light the emergence of a large number of girls in the fields of education. She also said that education is the most important factor that can bring changes in the society.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Tuli said that a society that does not have the vision of educating its youth and is not working towards the same is doomed to die. She exhorted the students to always remain learners and said that learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge and knowledge makes one great.
Terming the Jiwaji University as an apex centre of education in India, Dr Tuli commended the university authorities for their efforts in the fields of Inter disciplinary teaching, co-curricular activities and health and public awareness programs.
During the convocation ceremony, the passing out students took the oath pledging to serve the nation and support the values of the university community. The convocation oath was administered by Prof Sangeeta Shukla, the Vice- Chancellor of the university.
The convocation ceremony was also attended by the Executive Council members, faculty members, students and general public in large numbers.
