The three-day event dedicated to folk art and culture of the country, lok Alok, had a grand closure with mesmerising dance performances here on Sunday.
Organised under Anhad series of classical dance and music, Bharat Bhawan, the performances were presented at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhawan.
Assam folk dance presented by Jaidev Deka and troupe followed by Manipur folk dance and music performed by Kunja Das along with her troupe was staged before the dance and music lovers of the city.
The classical Manipuri dancers believe that it is more important to create worthy art lovers than pushing all to learn a classical art form. Moreover, Manipuri dance is purely religious and its aim is a spiritual experience. Manipuri classical form of dance is claimed not only to be one of the chastiest, modest, softest and mildest but the most meaningful dances of the world.
As many as 40 dancers covered the stage performing the enchanting Manipuri dance. The dance drama featuring the spiritual acts enthralled the audience. Further, the colourful costumes and the graceful, lyrical and delicate movements were the forte of the artists to present an eye catching performance. As the Manipuri dance form is all about spiritual and dance of happiness, the troupe also performed the dances performed on special occasions.
The event was then followed by Assam folk dance presented by Jaidev Deka along with his troupe. Under this performance, the dancers wonderfully performed the dances featuring the happiness of harvesting. The performance was the followed by another dance which is performed by both men and women and is usually performed on special occasion in Assam.
Expressing the joy and happiness of the Assamese this joyous dance is performed by both young men and women, and is characterized by brisk dance steps, rapid hand movement, and a rhythmic swaying of the hips in order to represent youthful passion. Dancers wear traditionally colorful Assamese clothing. Further, the troupe also performed the Fusion Folk Dances of Assam.
The moves and grooves were very smooth and soothing to eyes. The clean formations are like icing on the cake and the audience enjoyed the performances whole heartedly.
