'Allow PhD candidates to get hired as Assistant Professors'

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the leadership of National spokesperson and State Secretary Akshay Hunka submitted a memorandum to State Government’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Uma Shankar Gupta requesting him to allow candidates who have completed PhD for the recruitment to the post of Assistant Professors.

In the memorandum, it has been stated that as per the advertisement for the recruitment of 2371 Assistant Professors, published by the MP Higher Education Department, candidates who were registered or completed their PhD before 2009 are not eligible to apply. The candidates under such category are around 20,000 in Madhya Pradesh and 10 lakh nationwide.

Notably, central government formed Nigavekar committee had recommended including these candidates in the entrance exam and immediately after that the recommendation was published by the central government in its gazette. Thereafter, many States included the candidates who have completed their PhD before 2009 in the exams for the recruitment of the Assistant Professor.

AAP has demanded the State government to announce the inclusion of these PhD holders in the exam for Assistant Professors. Hunka said that the BJP’s State government is acting against its own party government at the Centre by not including the candidates who have completed PhD before 2009.

If the demands are not met, then the AAP would file a case in the Court, Hunka added.
