Ali rejects alliance with Cong in upcoming Bengal polls

Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member and former parliamentarian Subhashini Ali on Saturday rejected an alliance with the Congress in the coming assembly elections in West Bengal.

“We are against an alliance with the Congress in West Bengal,” said Ali while replying to a query by media here.

The six-phase assembly election in West Bengal is scheduled to begin from April 4. The ruling Trinamool Congress is pitted against the left Front, the Congress and its allies and the National Democratic Alliance at the hustings.

Consultations for a possible tie-up have been held between the Congress and the CPM but have not yielded any result so far. In 2011, the Trinamool Congress won a majority and ended the 34-year-old rule of the left Front Government.
