Ajay demands Vindhya region be declared drought-hit

Published on:

Vindhya region along with 40 districts should be declared drought affected and waiver of electricity bill of farmers demanded leader of Opposition in the State Assembly on Friday.

The farmers are facing problems due to drought in several districts of the State and to save them from taking any extreme step risking their lives State Government should declare relief with immediate effect.

Opposition leader Ajay Singh said that during the reign of UPA Government under the same set of conditions Central Government was approached for providing relief by State Government  but even after passing of one month State Government has not taken any step to tackle the situation.

He said that before his visit to Vindhya region he had visited Mandsaur where farmers are facing drought at several places. The debt ridden farmers are not in a position to face calamity.  The drought conditions have worsen in Sidhi, Satna, Shahdol, Anuppur and Umaria.

The State Government has done meetings and given instructions to Ministers to visit drought affected regions and put Government’s stand but no strategy has been devised by Government to tackle the crisis and nothing has been declared regarding relief.

Earlier at the time of drought situation in the year 2014 when UPA Government was at center CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan have demanded Rs 2000 crore to Rs 5000 crore as relief for the drought affected farmers but after PM Narendra Modi took over  nothing regarding relief surfaced.
