leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ajay Singh on Thursday backtracked from his statements made against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife Sadhana Singh.
Earlier, on June 20, a Delhi-based law firm lex Counsel on behalf of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife had served a notice to Ajay Singh for making ‘derogatory, malicious, concocted and defamatory’ comments, enclosing several newspaper clippings. It was sought in the notice that Singh should publicly apologise within one week over the statements delivered by him in Sagar.
The notice carried by several newspapers, where he allegedly described Sadhna Chouhan as note ginne ki machine (currency counting machine) at Congress meetings in Sagar and Khargone districts on May 9 and June 4, respectively.
In reply to the notice, dated June 30, 2013, Ajay Singh’s advocate Vineet Godha stated, “My client did not deliver any such statement and the notice was served on the basis of newspaper clippings that did not have any authenticity and are baseless.”
The lawyer also advised the legal firm that not to take any action on the basis of baseless allegations.
Official sources said the CM has taken the issue seriously and ready to have legal fight in this regard. The officials have been asked to get ready with the video recordings of Singh’s statements during the Parivartan Yatra in Sagar, where he made such derogatory comments against Chouhan and his wife.
A senior official told that after having received the reply, legal advice is being sought for further action.
