The All India Institute of medical sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal in order to improve its secretarial competence is soon going to start e-health management in order to provide single point access point to different applications and to simplify its monitoring.

Said to be first of its kind healthcare system in government hospitals of Madhya Pradesh the state of the art hospital management information system (HMIS) has been brought in.

AIIMS - Bhopal medical superintendent Dr KC Tamaria said, “A state of the art, HMIS will effectively make functioning at AIIMS Bhopal paperless. For the patients, it will provide a seamless connectively of health data when they move from one department to another or other referrals.”

The flexible platform for document management, content management, messaging services, electronic file movement has been proposed. The first hospital At Bhopal in the future would also be able to link its data with other six AIIMS, including AIIMS Delhi. The development is part of an action plan on ‘innovation technology for the decade of innovations - 2010 to 2020’ of the union government.

AIIMS Bhopal caters to around 1000 OPD patients per day and at any given point there are around 100 patients hospitalised in the premier hospital, which when fully functional is expected to cater to Central India.

Earlier this year, AIIMS Bhopal was connected to the online registration system (ORS) portal launched by the union ministry of information and technology as part of union government’s Digital India initiative. Most of the OPD registrations are now online through - ors.gov.in - at the AIIMS Bhopal. The scheme enables patients to book an online appointment for the upcoming days against vacant slots, cancellations and no shows at the institute.
