AIIMS Bhopal expands eye care services

Published on:

To enhance eye care services and reduce patient wait times, AIIMS Bhopal has inaugurated two additional refraction units in its Ophthalmology OPD, increasing the total number of such units to six. The move aims to address the growing patient load and ensure timely diagnosis and treatment of eye-related conditions.

A dedicated team of eight professionals, including three newly appointed refractionists (eye examination technicians), will now operate the expanded facility. The units are equipped to conduct comprehensive eye evaluations—from corneal assessments to eye muscle function tests.

Dr. Bhavana Sharma, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, stated that the new units will significantly improve patient flow and reduce waiting periods. "Earlier, due to limited infrastructure, many patients had to wait one or two days for their examinations. With the addition of these units, we can now offer faster consultations and better quality care," she said.

Previously, only four refraction units were functional in the main OPD, which often led to delays, particularly for patients traveling long distances who were forced to spend on accommodation and food while awaiting their turn. The two new units have been set up near the Trauma OPD to further streamline patient services.
