After allowing a free ride to the city people on i-buses for almost a month, the AICTCl management has decided to charge fares from the people who will be travelling by i-buses on the BRTS corridor from June 12 onward.
The fares will be collected from the commuters in three slabs of Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 15. From June 12 onward, anybody found to be travelling on buses without tickets will be fined. A decision to this effect was taken here in a review meeting of the BRTS and i-buses at AICTSl office here on Monday. In the meeting, district collector Akash Tripathi, and city Mayor KrishnaMurari Moghe said the fares from the commuters on i-buses will be collected under the trial run.
The duo informed that in the past one month, since the trial run of i-buses was started on the BRTS corridor, so far over 2.50 commuters have travelled on the i-buses which is an indication of huge response the i-buses have generated among the city people, they said adding that instructions have been passed on to the authority concerned for overcoming the practical difficulties and problems coming in the way of trial run of i-buses at the earliest.
Currently AICTSl management is running 10 i-buses on the BRTS corridor in the city and commuters are getting i-buses at each bus stop on the BRTS corridor in a gap of 10-12 minutes. Talking about the security measure being taken by the administration for the commuters, collector informed that at each of the bus stop, four CCTV cameras would be installed.
