As many as three students and director of the College were injured when police resorted to cane-charging to control the agitated students at the Millennium Group of Institutes premises on Tuesday.
More than 500 students thronged the Millennium College premise at Ratibad in the afternoon and vandalised 2 ATMs situated at the entry gate.
Police force reached the spot soon, but could not managed any dialogue to pacify the protesters and cane-charged them.
The mild use of force came after the students were not willing to stop the protest and leave the premises. Instead of going back to their classes they started stone pelting on cops after which mild force was used by the police in which three students including a girl student were injured, and on the other side around three police personnel including an Assistant Sub Inspector was injured, during the stone pelting.
College Director RNS Yadav was also injured in the incident.
A professor of the college tried to convince the protesting students but the intervention failed. A list of 44 students of fifth semester of EC-MITS was provided by the students in which ‘fine’ upto `1,400 was mentioned.
The students had gone to protest at the college campus alleging that the college management imposes fine on petty issues.
Such as fine of `300 on coming late to the college, `500 fine for carrying mobile phones and `1,000 for being absent without information.
According to the police at around 10.30 am the students started protesting at Bhadbhada and blocked the traffic. The students were pacified after the intervention of police but gathered at the college premises and started protesting against the college management.
Students were demanding revoking of the whole system of ‘fines’ as it is not acceptable to pay every time for such petty issues.
