After protest by local women, liquor shop removed from Anand Nagar

A liquor shop has been removed in Bhopal's Anandnagar after protests by women. Women and children were protesting here for five days, their demand was that the shop should be shifted from the residential area.

Now it has been shifted about 100 meters away. The shop at Karond square will also shift to another place. The shop will not be removed from Ramnagar in Shahjahanabad. The shop will be located along the main road in Kolar. Liquor will be sold in the shed instead of the tent.

A new liquor policy has come into force in Madhya Pradesh from April 1. There are five-six such shops, which are open near schools-hospitals and residential areas. People have been demonstrating for the last six days to remove them.

Excise department officials are now monitoring after continuous protests. District Excise Controller Sajendra Mori also reached the shops. He said that the Patel Nagar shop has been shifted to another place.

A shed is being built for a liquor shop in Nayapura. The shop is also being searched at the Karond intersection. This shop will be shifted. The distance from Shahjahanabad to Ramnagar is as per rules. There is no plan to remove it.

Earlier there were two open street side liquor shops in the city operated by installing tents, now a third liquor shop with a tent has also opened under the collectorate's great separator at the State Bank intersection Kohefiza.

This shop is 100 to 200 meters away from Lokayukta office and Kohefiza Thane. Neither the Excise Department has given notice to the owners of these shops, nor is the Municipal Corporation removing the hoardings on the roadsides by declaring them as encroachments.
