Administration reiterates need for enhanced readiness

With days to go before the arrival of monsoon, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ankur Meshram on Monday reiterated the need for foolproof flood preparedness across the state capital.

Meshram was speaking to officials at a district-level time-limit (TL) meeting attended by all Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), municipal officers and heads of departments.

A review of work pending with SDMs and officers from key departments was also conducted, with an impetus on proactive efforts to avert flood-related emergencies.

The ADM issued firm instructions for the swift redressal of complaints pending on the district helpline. All SDMs and department heads have been asked to personally monitor unresolved issues during the week.

Emphasising pre-monsoon flood management, Meshram directed officials to identify flood-prone zones across urban and rural areas and prepare detailed contingency plans.

He also issued instructions for the removal of encroachments along natural water bodies, drains and catchments.

Officials must inspect local ponds and dams, and also compile a list of decrepit and unsafe buildings for immediate action, Meshram said.

Other prominent instructions issued at the meeting included maintenance of roads, bridges and communication lines, the pre-identification of relief shelter locations, formation of disaster response committees at the ward level, and robust information dissemination systems. Regular coordination with the control room has also been made mandatory.
