With the scanty rainfall this season, Ghatigaon and Bhitarwar of the Gwalior district are facing drought like situation. Gwalior Collector Rahul Jain has said that administration would have to stop the migration of dwellers from Ghatigaon and Bhitarwar and arrange for water, fodder and employment for the residents.
“We will also talk to Electricity department not to issue electricity bill of those bore-wells which have become non-functional,” Jain said, adding that famers can wish to claim insurance but it will be 25 per cent only. This all was stated by Gwalior Collector Rahul Jain in front of farmers of Bhitarwar, Ghatigaon, Sarpanch and Farmer Morcha leaders.
Farmers have said that in 2003 when they faced drought conditions then the government had purchased the fodder at the rate of Rs 200 per quintal and sold at the rate of Rs 120 per quintal. Collector Rahul Jain has said that he has consulted with veterinary department on this issue and making the future plans as well. He also said that the administration would go for more bore-wells in the villages so that the water outlet from these bores could be increased.
“We will ensure more work under Manrega so that to stop the migration. Issues related payment matters will also be resolved on priority. Famers leaders have said that those farmers under KCC are not defaulter and deposited the amount even then they were not getting the loan,” Jain added. Jain further said that he has asked for the fund from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and as soon it is received, the loan will be distributed to those who are not defaulters.
