Adi Vidrohi drama festival focusing on freedom movement and mass awareness will be held at Ravindra Bhavan here from December 2 to December 8. The festival will get underway with play Sant Tukaram directed by Sanjay Mehta from Bhopal.
Director of Swaraj Sansthan Sriram Tiwari said, “We feel contended to present a festival which centres the struggle and sacrifice of the martyrs for the country’s freedom.” More than 60 plays have been staged under this festival.
This is the first theatre activity organised across the nation which highlights the struggle of martyrs on stage. “To create awareness among the present generation about the freedom movement, so to give it a broader look we would present the plays in different languages too,” Tiwari added.
The fest Adi Vidrohi would begin on December 2 with the play Sant Tukaram directed by Sanjay Mehta (Bhopal). On December 3, the fest would be followed with the play Umrao Jaan directed by Hidayat Sami (Mumbai), on December 4, play Taranaye Kafas directed by Ahmed Khan (Bhopal) would be staged. The fest would be followed with the play later to Gandhi directed by Sayeed Alam (New Delhi) that would be staged on December 5. On December 6, play Madhya Vatirni directed by Behrul Islam (Guwahati) would be staged. Another play Ajanto Baas directed by Sumant Gangopadhyay (Kolkata) would be staged on December 7. Sri Ram Tiwari said, “For past nine years we are conducting this fest and every time we stage new plays and receive a huge response.” On asking about the repetition of the scripts and theatre groups he said, “Adi Vidrohi drama festival has created a sole identity on national level and we always endeavour not to repeat any script again. Further, for the past eight years we have not repeated same plays but, if the same director wants to participate with another script we surely welcome him and his group.”
