Right to Information (RTI) activist Ajay Dubey has sought Governor Ramnaresh Yadav’s intervention in the appointment of lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta in the State.
Dubey, in a letter sent to Governor Yadav on Saturday, October 4, said, “The Madhya Pradesh Government is not following norms under lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta Act 1981 hence you are requested to instruct the State Government to bring strong transparency in the appointment of lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta.”
Dubey said that the post of Deputy lokayukta is lying vacant in the State since February 1, 2014, causing delay in action on the complaints of corruption in the State. “I have come to know through newspapers that Government is all set to appoint retired Director General (DGP) Nandan Dubey as the Deputy lokayukta while a committee headed by Justice NK Jain has been formed for the appointment of chairman of the MP Regulatory Commission (MPRC) the tenure of that would end in June 2015. When the Government is now making efforts for the appointment in MPRC than why is it not adopting transparent procedure in the appointment of lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta despite public demand for the same.”
Considering the seriousness of the issue in the light of mentioned facts Dubey urged the Governor to instruct the State Government to follow legal procedures in the appointment of lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta.
“We request you to instruct the State Government to adopt transparency in the procedure and immediately publish advertisements in print media like the lokpal Act 2013, so that most qualified and talented person could be selected on the coveted post,” he added.
He said, “As the guardian of the people of the State we expect from you that you would ensure that the State Government would not be allowed to provide back door entry to any one on these posts.”
