Accomplice in Bhopal acid attack case held

In connection with the acid attack case, the police on Saturday arrested a youth, Irfan, who reportedly accompanied the man who had thrown acid on the face of the 25-year old woman on Friday.Soon after the incident, on Friday, Sanjay Patil, the man who threw the acid, sustained seven stab injuries in the chest and abdomen, due to which he died. The police are still investigating whether the injuries were self-inflicted or he was attacked by somebody.

Since all the seven stab injuries were in the chest and abdomen, prima facie, it is considered that nobody can stab himself in such a way to commit suicide.

However, later on Saturday, the Dean of the Medico-legal Institute, RS Badkul, changed his statement saying that if the person is so much desperate to end life, he might stab himself in the chest.

In the acid attack incident, the police have registered a case of murderous assault. About the death of Patil, the police have not reached any conclusion, whether it was suicide or murder. Police officials claim that the investigation in this regard is in the process.

However, police sources claim that the police have arrested two more persons in connection with the death of Patil. A preliminary investigation suggested that Patil was allegedly murdered by gym manager Amol Karmalkar, one Shahjad and the brother of the woman, Golu. The police have rounded them up and are interrogating.

On the contrary, it is also said that they have been released after recording their statements.Additional Superintendent of Police Zone 2 Riyaz Iqbal said Irfan who had accompanied the accused in the attack has been arrested on charge of attempt to murder.During the investigation, it was found that the acid was diluted which could evaporate even in bright sunlight. The belongings of the victim and the deceased are being investigated for the chemicals, he added.

The victim has demanded CBI investigation into the matter.

The investigation conducted so far indicated that Patil was in relationship with the woman for the past seven years. later, when she joined the gym as an instructor, she came in contact with Amol and became close to him. Seeing that the woman was in affair with Amol, Patil got infuriated and this was the main reason behind the dispute between the two, it is alleged.The investigation also revealed that Patil had given the victim the house and all the home appliances and furniture in the house.
