Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members protested in the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education (IEHE) against conducting semester examinations on Parshuram Jayanti/ Akshay Tritiya on Monday while the college administration refused to cancel the paper.
ABVP members led by ABVP Organisational Secretary Vijay Atwal initially protested outside the institution gate while the examination was going on, later after the paper concluded and the gates were opened to let the students leave, ABVP members entered the college premises. When Kolar Road Police intervened in the matter and tried to stop ABVP members from entering Director's chamber, police force and members clashed.
later few members along with Atwal went inside where they had heated argument with IEHE Director Pramila Maini, ABVP members were demanding that examination should be declared cancelled and re-exam should be scheduled while Maini refused the demand stating she does not have authority.
ABVP members submitted memorandum to Maini and demanded decision over the demand within two days.
State Government declared Government holiday for May 13 statewide on the wake of Akshaya Tritiya and Parshuram Jayanti. After the orders, all the universities and colleges cancelled and postponed the examinations scheduled for May 13 except for Excellence College.
IEHE Director Pramila Maini told The Pioneer, "The examination time table of second, fourth and sixth semester were made before the State Government declared holiday. When the students learnt that the last examination may be postponed then they approached the administration and requested that the last examination should not be postponed as they already have reserved berths in trains to return to their hometowns."
"Beside that many final year students need to appear in competitive examinations for which they also required preparation time. Usually if any student have objection with time table then they give application for changing it but college did not receive a single application for rescheduling May 13 paper," added Maini.
While, Atwal alleged that IEHE Director Maini is trying to prove her proud driven authority over the college by superseding the orders of state government and higher education department. Students have approached her demanding cancellation of examination but she refused bluntly. She was not even ready to speak when the ABVP members tried to talk with her on Sunday, added Atwal.
