'Abolish practice of colleges keeping original documents'

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission has made several recommendations on Tuesday as the technical colleges collect the original documents of the students during the admission process and afterwards they refuse to return the documents to the students. Commission believes that this is the violation of human rights of the students and this makes the students depressed.

Commission recommended that this kind of practice should be abolished in order to reduce the problems of the students.

Commission recommended that the technical colleges should not collect the original documents of the students during the admission process. Notice should be displayed in the technical colleges in order to inform the students that the college should return their original documents after the verification process.

Commission further recommended that proper rules should be made regarding the issuance of the transfer certificate, so that the students would not be distressed. The government should issue the appropriate instructions regarding this. Technical Education’s Principal Secretary and Director should send the orders of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Madhya Pradesh government to the technical colleges. Principal Secretary and the director should also ensure that these orders are being implemented in the technical colleges.

Notably, not only the technical colleges, but those providing degree in Education (BEd) are also in the practice of collecting the original documents. The State government has time and again issued guidelines in this regard for the colleges, but this illegal practice could not be put an end to. The government has not adopted any random checking process in this regard.
