AAP gears up for Statewide Bijli agitation

Published on:
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would launch statewide ‘Bijli Andolan’ (electricity agitation) against the proposed hike in the electricity prices in Madhya Pradesh. Through the agitation the slogan of that would be ‘Bijli Dar Ghatao, Pradesh Bachao’ (reduce electricity rates, save state). Over ten lakh signatures in support of their demands would be sent to the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after a huge rally in Bhopal on April 12.
AAP state convener Alok Agrawal and State S ecretary Akshay Hunka while addressing media persons here on Wednesday said, “AAP would launch Bijli Andolan across the State against the hike of 25 per cent demanded by the power companies of the State. We demand that at the place of hiking the electricity prices the rates should be brought down.”
The AAP leaders said that before holding a huge rally and demonstration in the State capital on April 12 the agitation would be carried out at Tehsil and district level.  “The AAP demands that the people reeling under dearness should not be further burdened with 25 per cent hike in electricity prices and instead should be relieved by bringing down the electricity rates by 25 per cent” Agrawal said.
The AAP leaders said that the power companies demand to hike prices is non mandatory and uncalled for besides being anti people. The people of the State and country are burdened with dearness as prices of all essential commodities have gone up, in these circumstances an increase in the electricity prices would further the burden and make their living conditions miserable. Hence, it would not be appropriate to increase the electricity prices and that is why we demand that in order to provide relief to the people the prices should be brought down by 25 per cent at the place of raising them, they added.
