A team of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members visited Ujjain on Friday to assess the loss of life and destruction caused by the heavy rainfall on Thursday and also met the injured devotees there.
AAP members pointed out that by looking at the post-rainfall conditions in Ujjain, it can be stated that the Madhya Pradesh government was not prepared to deal with such climatic conditions. They further alleged that this shows how poor the arrangements were in the Simhastha area that it could not withstand the rainfall and caused destruction and loss of human lives. The reason must be the corruption and irregularities which cost eight lives and more than 100 were injured, and the destruction mounts up to crores of rupees.
After surveying the conditions in Ujjain, the State Convener of AAP Alok Agrawal said that the State government has utterly failed in making proper arrangements in Ujjain. In-spite of spending Rs 4500 crore in the arrangements at Simhastha, Shivraj Singh Chouhan government and Simhastha in-charge Minister Bhupendra Singh have failed to check the disaster which claimed eight lives.
Agrawal further said that Bhupendra Singh must take the responsibility of the incident and immediately tender his resignation. He demanded that there must be legal investigation to look into the incident and action must be taken against the responsible.
He also demanded that Rs 20 lakh be given to the families who lost their loved ones in the disaster.
State Secretary of AAP Akshay Hunka said that by looking at the Simhastha area it is clear that there is no proper arrangement in the area. The sewer lines are broken, there is no cleanliness and there is no proper arrangement for people to stay, he added. This clearly suggests the corruption, irregularity and immoral activities in the Shivraj government that desecrated even Simhastha.
