Bollywood actor Aamir Khan on Monday backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's views on crime against women. Aamir said he completely agrees with the Prime Minister that leaders should not comment over the dignity of a woman who suffered brutality. Aamir attended programmes related to children and women in Bhopal, where he launched a 'One stop crisis centre' (OSCC) for women. The Bollywood actor also underwent a slip of the tongue when he referred to Bhopal as Bihar. Khan committed the faux pas when he said that he was happy to have come to Bihar, instead of saying Bhopal. Aamir refused to comment on the molestation case filed by Preity Zinta against former boyfriend and business partner Ness Wadia.
On the growing atrocities against women, the Bollywood actor said that girls should be empowered and at the same time, boys should be provided proper upbringing so that they learn to respect women.
The actor lauded the courage of those women who took to the stage and narrated the ordeal they faced in their lives and how they managed to retaliate and inspired many others. "The woman remains the nucleus of the family, so the parents should empower their daughters," he urged.
He felicitated several women who had shown exemplary courage against atrocities and presented themselves as role models.
Early in the event, Sarika Sinha, regional manager of the volunteer organization, 'Action Aid Association,' cutting a sorry figure of Madhya Pradesh in atrocities against women told the gathering that the state registers nine rape cases and two dowry deaths every day.
Describing the OSCC as the first such initiative in the country, Sinha said that the Centre would act as a 24x7 helpline offering psychological, medical and legal help, apart from providing assistance in rehabilitation of women who suffer atrocities like rape, violence and acid attacks.
Under the state government's initiative - Gauravi - the Centre would function from Jaiprakash Hospital.
The unique establishment has been jointly started by Action Aid Association and Family Welfare and Health Department of the State Government.
