A light hearted Hindi comedy play ‘Aakhri Bus’ was staged at Shaheed Bhavan on Wednesday, leaving the audiences burst out laughing.
The Hindi play was presented by Rang Darshan Theatre Group, Bhopal. It was originally written by a noted playwright Alenxender Vampilo in English as ‘The Elder Son’. The play is translated into its Hindi version by Ajay Sinha and was directed by Aruna Suman.
The play deals with the lives of few strangers who somehow meet each other and then forms an unbreakable relationship with each other.
The play began with introducing two young boys who go to Mumbai on their holidays. After travelling the whole city, the boys reach Navi Mumbai late night. As they were all set to leave for their hotel, they somehow miss the last bus they need to board. As it was already late in night, the boys had to look for a place to spend the night. Wherever they ask for help, they were denied of it. Finally, the boys see a small house with three members, an old man who used to play clarinet in weddings, his young son and daughter.
The boys have an idea to spend the night. One of the boys tells the old man that he was his ‘Elder Son’ from his old girlfriend. The old man gets confused and allowed the boys inside. After a while, the old man tells his story to his children about his old girlfriends and thought he might be the son of one of those.
A lot of confusion happens during the night. What happens at the end formed rest of the story that made the audience laugh their hearts out.
The play was a situational comedy. The lighting and the music was kept simple yet innovative and the live music enhanced the mood of the scenes. It was a comic treat for the theatre-goers.
