On the second day of the film festival, a classic movie Aadmi was screened before the Bhopalites. Notably, the three-day film festival on V Shantaram had evoked a quite good response on the opening day. Here on Wednesday, Aadmi was screened at Antrang Hall Bharat Bhavan that also received the similar response by the film lovers of the city.

While talking to The Pioneer, Prem Shankar Shukla, in-charge of Chhavi series of classical cinema said, “There are people in the city who appreciate art in every form and so the film festival on V Shantaram is also receiving a satisfactory appreciation by the Bhopalites.”

Directed by V Shantaram Aadmi is again based on social life that emphasises on another dark truth about the society. Aadmi released in the year 1939 deals with the issue of sex workers, its morality and social acceptance. The narrative forwards through the life of a simple-minded policeman who tries to give social acceptance to the life of an innocent sex worker by marrying her. Despite his sincere efforts he is unable to fulfill his wish for the society in which they live is reluctant to forget and forgive her for her undesirable past.

Notably, the movie was originally produced in Marathi as Manoos — the film was widely appreciated by the audience worldwide. After watching the Marathi film Charlie Chaplin praised Shantaram for his great endeavor. Shantaram’s depiction of the life of the policeman and that of the prostitute fascinate us with the gleam of realism.

Music by Master Krishnarao was also appreciable and the cast includes Shahu Modak, Shanta Hublikar, Bai Sundrabai, Ram Marathe, Master Chotu, Buasaheb and Gauri. The Bhopalites enjoyed the show as the movie watchers of the city received a chance to watch the rarest Indian classic on big screen.
