A smooth MP session with Bachchan as Cong leader

Yet another Assembly session ended on Wednesday ahead of schedule, indicating the widening gap between the ruling party and the Opposition. It also reflected the legislators' growing lack of interest in House proceedings.

Besides, this was the only session that was convened in the absence of the leader of the Opposition, Satyadev Katare, who is recuperating at his home. Katare has been sick for quite some time and recently returned from the United States after going through a surgery and at present is on bed rest.

However, in the absence of Katare, the Deputy leader of the Opposition, Bala Bachchan, was in charge of the main Opposition and he aptly shouldered the responsibility. Under his leadership, the Congress members raised almost all the issues and the proceedings went on smoothly in comparison with previous several sessions.

In the past two years, almost all the sessions were disrupted by the main Opposition Congress members over one or other issues. The main issue that disrupted the sessions so far in recent times was the irregularities committed in admission and recruitment scam through Vyapam.

The proceedings continued smoothly, but the opposition members were witnessed quite aggressive during the Winter session. Former leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh while talking to media persons quipped that the reason behind Congress members’ aggression was absence of Katare from the House.

After the BJP came to power a third term, this was the only session in which Vyapam scam did not echo in the Assembly.

Notably, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in his concluding address lauded the working of Bachchan stating that the smooth proceeding with creative discussion on people-oriented issues was possible only with the efforts of Bachchan. Besides, this session of the State Assembly remained in the limelight for the members of the ruling party and Opposition getting united on pro-people issues.
