There was a tussle between reality and idealism when a child explores double standard of society. Under the Abhinayan series of dramas, a Hindi play ‘Ram Ramaiya’ was staged at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum. The play was performed here on Friday.

Directed by Mohammad Jahangir from Balaghat, the play is based on the story by legendary writer Munshi Premchand. The story was titled as 'Ram leela'. In this play a child is unable to understand the double standard principles of society. The child believes that the folk artist who plays the character of Ram in Ram leela as the real lord Rama.

When the donation falls short for the Ram leela festival, Chaudhary of the village gets a new idea and organizes the dance performance and invites the dancers in village so that he can earn money. Among them, there was a man, who was the child’s father. Seeing that his father is wasting his money on the dancers the child feels ashamed of himself.

At the Ram leela, the artists perform as Ram-laxman and Sita. When the Ram leela concluded, the Chaudhary did not pay the folk artists and asks them to leave without the money. Seeing this, child run toward his father and asks for some money. But, even his father denies to give the money.

The child feels really sad and gives money to the artists from his pocket money that he saved from his pocket expenses. The child is distressed seeing that all the people, even his father had money to waste on the dancers but not the folk artists who he thought are real Ram, laxman and Sita.

The child does not understand this double standard of society. This play opens the face of hypocrisy of society, where every person of the society maintains a double faced and advises others to do good work.

The play was beautifully presented and was loved by the audience.
