To mark the 154th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the Rabindranath Amateur Theatre Group, Bhopal, has organised multifarious events from May 7 to 10.
A Tagore Dance Drama Festival as Rabindra Utsav 2014 would be organised at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan. Here the Bhopalites would be witnessing the dance dramas, plays and a rock band performance under the four-day theatre festival.
Notably, Rabindra Utsav is organised every year to mark the birth anniversary of the noted poet, author and Nobel prize winner. In earlier years, various other events too had been organised in his memory as a tribute to his flawless work in the fields of literature and music. Not only was he an extraordinary poet but he also knew how to widen the readers’ thoughts and so he also wrote some of the dance dramas which are remembered till now.
On the first day of the Rabindra Utsav 2014, ie, on Wednesday, a dance drama, Shyama, would be presented by a renowned dancer, Reena Sinha. Shyama is essentially a romantic tragedy, though there are two love stories intertwined: That of Shyama and Bajra Sen, who at first are both in search of their initial partners. Then there is the unexpressed, unrequited love that Uttiyo has for Shyama which leads Uttiyo to sacrifice himself for her happiness. Both romantic situations are likely to be painfully familiar to many.
On second day, ie, on Thursday, Bharatanatyam exponent lata Singh Munshi would present another dance drama Chitraganda. This story is picked up from Mahabharata that Rabindranath Tagore gave a beautiful imagery depicting the story of a strong woman.
On the third day, ie, on Friday, a play, Drishti Daan, written by Rabindranath Tagore, would be staged.
The event would have a grand closure with a rock band performance on Saturday. The performance would be on Rabindra Sangeet including the fusion.
