Yoga in Sanskrit means fusion or joining. It has a deeper meaning, which governs life. The simple meaning is the fusion of humans and divinity. The Yoga is a divine state when Consciousness mingles with the Super Consciousness. Every being has a privilege to attain this unique state. Though origin of Yoga has been copiously mentioned in all holy scriptures, it is an integral action of human life.
Today, an enthusiastic atmosphere prevails across the world. Everyone is doing Yoga. It is a matter of pride for the proud citizens of India. Finally, the world community is drawing benefits from India’s heritage of Yoga. We and members of new generation are a proud witness to this historic moment. The United Nations’ declaration of International Day of Yoga on June 21 itself is a declaration that the Yoga is beyond religion, caste, creed or colour. This year's theme is Yoga For Well-being. A massive vaccination drive against Covid19 is starting from today. The sole purpose is to save the life of every citizen. Realizing the healing power of the Yoga, the State Govt started Yoga Se Nirog programme during deppressing times of second wave of Covid19. The result was amazing.
The new generation must have confronted a question regarding gains of Yoga. The simple answer is that Yoga leads to Spiritual Silence or Peace. This is the fundamental requirement for body and mind. A mind with no peace and body with no control negatively affects the entire society.
The Yoga is a gate opening to the Peace, which leads to concentration. An example of Swami Vivekananda is worth quoting . He was invited by various groups of scholars for discourses on Vendata after he gave historic Chicago speech. When among American students, he was asked about the way to concentrate on studies. Swamiji said – There is only one way – Concentration, which emerges in peaceful mind. A mind full of peace is free from impure thoughts. Peace generates positive energies and this is always benevolent. A man with peace of mind can not take wrong decisions. When Body, Mind and Soul are in unison, there is no question of impurities and negativity.
The Katha Upnishad describes Yoga as absolute control over senses. Shrimad Bhagwad Gita says that Yoga is a disconnection from the suffering. Maharshi Patanjali in his Yoga Sutra describes Yoga as a method to exercise control over unruly mind. Mahjarshi Aurobindo has gone to the extent of saying that human life itself is Yoga as it has many fusions and connections.
A question naturally comes to one regarding why one should practice Yoga. The simple response is that the utmost objective of Yoga is to enter an orbit of Supreme Consciousness. But what is Supreme Consciousness? It is a state where mind supports only justice and righteousness. The values like mercy, compassion, friendship and peace dominate. This state is compulsory in everyone’s life regardless of religion, caste, community or place of living. Just imagine, when entire world is doing Yoga, there is no question of any prejudice. The awareness about geographical limits fades away. Be it USA, Australia, South Africa or Europe. The entire world will become united. When minds become one with each other, geographical limits are collapsed automatically.
It is a revolutionary step to awaken the world community towards Supreme Consciousness.
