The play based on Rabindranath Tagore’s short story, ‘Samapti,’ defining the mixed emotions of a married couple marked the opening of the four-day theatre festival here on Friday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.

Organised by Trikarshi Theatre Group, Bhopal, as a regular theatrical activity, the play was directed by Rajiv Shrivastava.

The story is about an educated Bengali boy who falls for a reckless girl in village after returning to his hometown. The journey of the union of two extreme minds had made this short story a real masterpiece.

Apoorva is an educated individual in Calcutta living with his sister and brother-in-law. As it is time for him to get married, Apporva’s mother arranges his wedding with a girl who stays in a village nearby. On the way to the girl’s village, Apoorva met another girl Mrinmoyi and fall for her. He tells his mother that he only wants to get married to that girl. After marriage they discovered that the girl was least interested in her marital life and household work and only love to play with village kids and steal mangoes.

Out of frustration, Apoorva leaves for Calcutta. As the time passes, Mrinmoyi starts to miss Apoorva and his unconditional love for her. She returns to her husband’s house, but as a changed person. Her realization and her journey from a girl into a woman let the couple meet forever.

The director of the play Rajiv Shrivastava said, “‘‘Marriages are like some unique occasion for man and woman and both have different impacts on their lives.”’ Elaborating his viewpoints, Rajiv further said, “‘Marriage brings a lot of changes in the life of an individual. After marriage a girl changes herself into a woman, and here starts the story of ‘Samapti’.”’  He further said, “‘Tagore had noticed these changes in his times and wrote the story. Through this play we want audience to think, has the scenario changedIJ”’

The audiences were mesmerized to watch the masterpiece by Tagore on stage. The presentation and the matured acting skills of the artists of the troupe left the audience awestruck and making the opening day of the fest a memorable one.
