For the first time in the history of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), 898 houses, constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), were allotted to the beneficiaries through computerised lottery system on Friday.
The lottery was organised by the BMC at the Acharya Narendradev library Hall at 11 am. It was conducted in presence of about 800 residents of Rahul Nagar locality including many women, who were eagerly waiting to see the results.
Under the lottery, the numbers of 898 residences and eligible beneficiaries, approved by the BMC Commissioner, were already fed into the computer. With the computerised system, the lottery was allocated within few minutes of clicking the button. BMC has constructed these houses at the Rahul Nagar slum locality in the city situated near Maulana Azad National Engineering College (MANIT). These have been constructed under a component of JNNURM called Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP).
BMC Council Chairperson Kailash Mishra said, addressing the beneficiaries, that the computerized lottery system has ensured that the whole process of allotment of residential homes has been fully transparent and objective. "There is no room for any doubt regarding the objectivity of the computerized lottery. This measure of BMC clearly shows that it is truly concerned about the welfare of urban poor," Mishra said. Earlier, BMC Additional Commissioner Kishore Kanyal and Chief Engineer Sunil Shrivastava elaborated the various technical details of the lottery to remove any doubts in this regards to the Rahul Nagar residents.
lottery raises rigging charge
Bhopal:The lottery was organised to allot houses to beneficiaries has been alleged by many as rigged to favour pre-determined beneficiaries. The Rahul Nagar Mohalla Committee named 'Basti Suraksha Manch' has raised doubts over the computerised lottery system alleging that several irregularities have been committed by the BMC officials. According to the Manch secretary Khumendra, the names of several Rahul Nagar residents were earlier omitted by the BMC despite the fact that these people had submitted all the required documents and id proof.
