Almost 80 per cent of the primary schools in the State capital do not have the facility of electricity. Ironically, such schools are accepting donations of ceiling fans, but there is no electricity in the schools to use them.
While talking to The Pioneer, District Project Coordinator (DPC) RK Pandey, working under the District Education Office, said, "Around 80 per cent primary schools of the city do not have electricity connection. We have submitted a proposal in this regard to the State Government. The final decision has to be taken by the Government, as budget is required for this proposal."
The 40-year old Shaskiya Prathmik Shala, Shahpura in the city is facing similar situation, which lacks electricity connection.
Surprisingly, Headmaster of the school JR Titariya was not aware that having electricity connection is mandatory for every school. "Since there is no provision for electricity in the primary schools, we have not complained about it to the authority," he added.
There around 300 students and eight teachers in this school. According to the Government rule of one teacher for every 30 students, there is a need of two more teachers in this school, the principal added.
Regarding the sanitation problem in the school, a teacher of the school, Aruna Dube said, "We call a sweeper weekly, as there is no sweeper appointed in the school. Generally, the salary of sweeper is given from the repairing funds of the school."
Besides, the maid appointed for midday meal could not get salary for past last one and a half years. "I have complained to education department officers in this matter several times, but no avail. Moreover, this issue was also raised before Nandi Foundation, but I am still waiting for the reply," said the principal.
